User experience consultant positions at User Vision
User Vision is looking to grow our great team of user experience consultants with experienced practitioners or recent graduates. The role will be based in Edinburgh and involve travel throughout the UK and potentially abroad.
For over 11 years we have been leaders in user experience research and design, applying innovative and high quality UX services with leading commercial and public sector clients. We are expanding our team to meet increasing demands in the UK, Europe and the Middle East and are seeking people who are passionate and skilled in user experience and user centred design to join us.
The Role - What will you be doing with us?
We get involved in an incredibly diverse range of projects throughout the full user-centred design process, from researching user needs to prototyping and usability testing, and helping clients optimize their businesses post launch. You may have strengths in some areas and you’ll get the opportunity to learn and grow across the full breadth of UX / IA methods. Typical projects could require:
- Researching user requirements through appropriate methods, developing personas and integrating the results into the planning and early design stages of projects
- Information architecture research, analysis and design to help optimize customer journeys and findability of content
- Expert usability evaluations on interface and interaction design, working collaboratively with stakeholders and design partners to implement the results
- Creating wireframes and prototypes of all levels of fidelity to iteratively design interfaces and interactions based on best practice and research
- Conducting usability tests that refine the design from early stages through to final designs, and clearly communicating recommendations
- Accessibility audits and testing with disabled users to ensure appropriate standards are met
- Strategic consultancy with clients to help their business benefit as much as possible from user-centred design.
You will be doing this in a company where learning from others within and outside the company is encouraged, so you will have many opportunities to develop your skills and career as a UX consultant.
Responsibilities – What we expect of you
You will be given responsibility to lead and perform projects, with the full support of the User Vision team. This will include:
- Managing from start to finish a wide range of user experience projects Understanding client & stakeholder requirements and contributing to proposals and pitches for projects
- Communicating through presentations and reports the results of your work, in a clear, persuasive way that helps clients to implement your recommendations
- Developing and presenting training courses and public seminars on user experience
- Contributing to proposals and pitches for new business opportunities, communicating insight, skill and passion
Your experience & skills
We want to work with the best so you should have deep and broad experience which you can demonstrate.
- You have detailed knowledge and practical experience in a broad range of user experience research and interaction design skills for all stages of the development process, particularly customer research, wireframing / prototyping, information architecture development usability testing and evaluation.
- Ideally you have qualifications and background in a field such as psychology, interaction design, research, computer science or other related fields
- You have a good sense of business acumen for the varied environments in which our projects are based and can discuss the strategic commercial impact of user experience and can identify opportunities where UX can improve a business.
- You are professional, confident, insightful engaging and diplomatic with clients and have high standards of quality for your work
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey the insights from your research
- You are self-confident, comfortable working to deadlines and can handle multiple projects effectively, working well with others in as a member of a team as well as leading your own projects
- You are ideally experienced conducting practical usability /user experience within a commercial environment, but recent graduates also welcome.

Information Architects (2 positions)
Salary
£300 - £350 per day
Job description
We need two IA's who can join an existing project at a client's site in Edinburgh and work alongside the designers and developers to produce wireframes and page layouts for a consumer focused financial services website. The strategy has been signed off and the project is under way, so the IA's will be ensure that the project delivers against the brand principles and usability standards already set out.
The project is likely to run for 4 months at least with the likelihood of further work beyond the initial period. Start date - immediate, or in the next 2 weeks depending upon availability. Meetings with our client can take place immediately and their budget is around £300 - £350 per day but they are willing to stretch if required.
